On Saturday 31st August we officially recognise the contributions of our fellow Poneke players - Dane Coles, Daniel Ramsay, Ruki Tipuna (NZ Maori) and Charlie Ngatai (IRB U20 Champion). Presentations will start at 5.45pm at the clubrooms. Come along and lets celebrate this fantastic moment!
Our scheduled 'home' game was transferred to Te Whaea in Newtown due to the ground conditions of Kilbirnie Park. With a sniff of a home semi-final the decision was made to spare the park and play the very first Premier game of club rugby at the new artificial surface. With the change in location. decent weather and ground conditions enabling a full 15 man game it proved too tantalising for sports fans and a good number of supporters showed up for both teams.
Poneke led at half time (20-16) however OBU remained competitive with only pride to play for since their Jubilee Cup play-off hopes were dashed some weeks ago. With handy bench players in Dane Coles and Ruki Tipuna inserted after the half time break Poneke proved too strong.
On the points table Poneke are on top and are 2 points clear of HOBM who we'll be facing next week. Make sure you're at the club on Saturday to support our boys as they play for not only the number 1 position on the points table but also the Andy Leslie Trophy as minor Premier winners.
Congratulations to Dane Coles, Daniel Ramsay and Ruki Tipuna who were part of the NZ Maoris Centenary Series with a clean sweep of victories against The NZ Barbarians, Ireland and England. Well done gentlemen!
Poneke Football Club congratulates Charlie Ngatai and the U20 IRB World Cup winning squad for their successful campaign in Argentina.
Before Red and Black Night - we'll be holding a presentation to collectively celebrate and acknowledge our latest representative players - Dane Coles, Daniel Ramsay, Ruki Tipuna and Charlie Ngatai - with their recent rugby feats during the NZ Maori and IRB Junior World Cup campaign. We look forward to seeing you there!
Red & Black Night will be held on Saturday 24th July so get your costume ideas sorted because it's not that far away!
Congratulations to the nominated players who win the 'Player of the Match' prizes - generously donated each home game week by Lagerfield Bar on Blair Street. Players in our Premiers, Senior 1 and Senior 2 could win themselves for their fantastic efforts on the field a $50 meal voucher. Poneke Football Club thanks Lagerfield Bar for their generous support of our top 3 squads during the 2010 season.
