Your Week Ahead - Written by Katy Pither

Hi Everyone

Just to let you Know, Flo arrived safe and sound in London - she has already text to find out the results of your games and she also got up ridiculously early to watch the All Blacks game live.

Congratulations to all the winning teams from Saturday, well done.  Wins were recorded for the Premiers, Hammers, Colts 2 and Womens, plus a win by default for the Ruffnuts.

Prems beat MSP 22 - 13 at home, apparently it is the first time in at least 12 seasons that Poneke have beaten MSP in both their Swindale Shield and Jubilee Cup round robin games in the same year!

The Prems were quickly awarded a penalty try to take the lead after we tackled without the ball and we maintained that lead for the rest of the game.  Our "bruising Poneke forward pack outmuscled Marist St Pat's" - well done boys.

Best and fairest points for Jubilee Cup were awarded to: Sam Rasch (3 points) and Masefau Leuluniu (2 points).
Best and fairest points for Hardham Cup were awarded to: Evan Belford (1 point).

Bar Price Increase - Don't shoot the bar staff!

As of 1st Jult 2009, prices are going up at the bar.  We have been very lucky not to have any price increases for the past two years but unfortunately it is inevitable.

'The Establishment Player of the Match'

For every home game played - one team member is nominated as 'The Establishment Player of the Match' and receives a $40 food and beverage voucher. Congratulations to the winners from Saturday and thank you to 'The Establishment' for sponsoring this prize!

Ground Floor Update

Provided by Jamie Delich - The ground floor upgrade is costing about $600,000.00 and is a 50/50 partnership between our club and the Wellington City Council to provide better quality changing rooms, showers and toilets for our playing members and the wider community who use our facilities.  The upgrade is well advanced with building alterations to the layout of the changing room shower and toilet areas completed. Tiling of the shower areas and new non-slip floor surfaces to all these spaces is about to get underway.

The new shower areas will have mechanical ventilation (no more steam filled showers) with a total of 44 showers serviced by a new gas fired hot water system.  We have relocated the referees’ room to the southern end of the changing rooms and created a separate trainers/strappers space within storage to service existing changing rooms 1, 2 and 3.  The spaces that were changing rooms 4, 5 and 6 with room only to swing a very small cat have been integrated to create a large communal changing area for visiting teams. The old changing room No 7 remains unchanged but will be re-decorated and have a new floor surface along with a general lighting upgrade throughout the ground floor amenities.

With the limited funding available we have also been able to include the first stage of including a proper lift from the ground to the first floor to improve the access and servicing of the upper floor. We hope to complete the lift work and add a spectator viewing deck over the park in the next 15 months if and when funding permits. For now our focus is on better amenities for our players.

Timing for the project has been less than ideal but out of the club and the Councils control. While inconvenient to many, we thank you for your understanding and appreciate that the Wellington City Council has made available facilities at the Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre available to Poneke and visiting teams to use.  Just a reminder to observe the following rules:

Identify yourself at pool reception so numbers can be kept
NO washing of training and playing gear in showers
NO mud/boots to be trekked into the changing room
NO use of the pools or other facilities unless you pay the required fee
NO litter or mess to be left behind

Thanks for your consideration and we'll keep you posted on how the projects going.
